Ponil
Ponil, the former "base camp" of Philmont, is perhaps the largest, most visited camp at Philmont.

Overview:
- Type of Camp: Staff Camp
- Elevation: 7200 ft
- Number of Campsites: 16
- Water: Available from a Spigot
Things to Do at Ponil:
- Horse Shoe Throwing: Play horse shoes with your crew, and try to beat the staff.
- Branding: Put the popular Philmont brand on your boots, cup, hat or just a piece of wood.
- Chuck Wagon Dinner: Take a day off from the dehydrated food and eat a traditional southwest meal.
- Cantina and Post Office: Get a drink of ice cold root beer and mail off that postcard that was at the bottom of your backpack. The General Store also stocks basic items like film.
- Cantina Show: A great show full of singing and dancing, although it gets quite crowded in the cantina if there are too many crews there.
- Wranglin': Practice your hand at the lassoing of fake cattle.
- Horse Rides: Ride around the area in style: on your very own horse.
- Shower House: Perhaps the favorite activity at Ponil is taking a shower and washing dirty clothes.
- Commissary: Pick up your next set of food, or trade in your extra.
Words of Wisdom
- Ponil is a great camp. Don't spend the entire day asleep in your tent.
- Brand at least one item to remember your trip
